I know, I have been the worst blogger ever but I have a way of making it up to you! A super duper recipe for the Chocolate Orange cake of your dreams, guaranteed to make anyone pull the below expression:
To make your own chocolate orange masterpiece you will need the below:
- 125g butter
- 225g soft brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 150ml sour crean
- 155g plain flour
- 20g ground almonds
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 60g best cocoa powder
- zest of one large orange
For the Icing:
- 200g dark orange chocolate – I used this one
- 2 heaped tbsp of cocoa powder
- 150ml of double cream
Pre-heat your oven to Gas Mark 4 and grease your sandwich tin. I used this fetching heart shaped one I picked up in Brixton Village for £3 – bargain!
Cream together your butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then add your eggs, sour cream and mix everything until it is well combined.
Sift in your dry ingredients and your orange zest then slowly fold everything in. Pop your cake mixture in the tin and bung it in the oven for 30 – 40 minutes.
While its baking away, make your icing…
Melt your chocolate (you can either be fancy and use a ban marie but I just throw mine in the microwave for 30 seconds), and then beat in your cocoa powder and cream when the chocolate is completely cool.
When your cake is cooked through, leave until until its cold to touch then smother in your icing. Decorating with edible roses optional but highly encouraged.
