This is the blog post that wasn’t meant to happen. When E suggested Three Eight Four in Brixton for a Friday night cocktail, my reaction was essentially the below:

However, I was to be proved wrong – what a little gem! Three Eight Four is hidden on Coldharbour Lane (the road between KFC and Dogstar ;)).

We arrived without a booking, on a Friday about 7ish and managed to get the last few seats at the bar. The devilishly handsome Bar Tender supplied us with some ‘Margarita Popcorn’ and left us to peruse the menu.

The jury is out on the popcorn, E thought it tasted like salt and vinegar, I thought it tasted like curry – either way, it was free and we ate it all.

To start, drinks wise, E had the Bombay Kitchen (Indian spiced gin and rum with coriander, mint, tabasco & mango juice) which came with mini popadums and chutney, C the Peach and Elderflower Fizz (Pisco brandy with elderflower, orange bitters, lemon & sugar syrup) and I plumped for the Mr Flambastic (Blackwell’s dark & Red Leg spiced rums mixed Cointreau, served with flambéed peaches in brandy) – which much to my delight was sizzled up right in front of us!

We had a few small plates to share as well before ordering another round of cocktails; the Cherry Bakewell also stood out as a winner! The drink prices vary from between £6 – £9 per drink, so about standard for London… or maybe I have been here too long, as I think that is completely acceptable. Get there early if you want to stroll in – any later than 9ish, I would advise booking. You can find all their details here.

Honestly, is there anything better than a Friday cocktail?
